Electronic Timing Confirmed For Colours & DUC's
UCDAC have decided to provide electronic timing for the colours event to be held this Friday 15th in Irishtown Stadium. This event, which has in the past been exclusively a competition between UCD and Trinity, this year has been oficially extended to envolve DIT and DCU. The traditional Colours competition will still take place and title awarded to either UCD or Trinity. In addition a Dublin Universities Champion college will be crowned, although UCDAC indicate that no trophy has yet been sourced for this competition.
The idea behind all of these ammendments, according to the club, is to encourage a higher level of competition. Recently the standard at the colours has dropped. By holding this event in a professional facility, with electronic timing and closer to the Intervarsities, the club hopes to attract more athletes and to provide them with an oppurtunity to begin tuning up for the bigger competition. The variety of distances (600m insted of 800m) for example) is also an attempt to attract those who are homing their race skills but who don't necessarily want a race at full distance.
Lets hope all of this effort is well rewarded with keen interest from the Dublin colleges and some good competitions.
